It goes without saying - but I'll say it anyway - that your dress is the most important piece of fashion on your mind for your big day. It's ok, that's the way it should be and it's only natural. Of course, unless you're having a super casual beach or outdoor wedding, chances are, you will also need some fabulous footwear to compliment your dream bridal gown. These days most anything goes thanks to celebrities and other fashionistas who have been so bold as to step out in style on their wedding day from their head all the way down to their toes, so we thought it was time to do some "sole" searching ourselves and reveal the latest trends and tips for your wedding-day shoes.
If you saw the first Sex in the City movie, you will likely remember that Carrie, always the trendsetter, wore some bold blue shoes on her wedding day - who could forget? Of course she also wasn't walking down the aisle of a church but rather in a courthouse, which serves as a fun little reminder that what you wear should always reflect the type of wedding you're planning. Our resident expert and wedding coordinator for more than 17 years, Kathi Wood, offers this piece of advice, "Colored shoes are great if they do not distract from the overall beauty and elegance of the ceremony." She also adds that while you may want to consider being more traditional for your service, that doesn't mean you can't have a little footwear fun at your reception but be prepared, fabulous often comes with an equally memorable price tag! It is a once-in-a-lifetime day but would you rather wear a pair of Manolos or have some extra fun money for the honeymoon?
If you prefer less formal and more casual, choices abound for you as well. From flip flops to strappy low sandals, again, the best advice is to let your shoes fit your day - and of course - your feet! "Backless shoes are just not a good idea for many reasons," recommends Kathi. Though they may be the epitome of casual, you'll also hear every flip and flop as you walk down the aisle and will look less like the floating, graceful bride you may have pictured for so many years. Then there's the added risk of taking a misstep and leaving a shoe in the aisle - very Cinderella of course - but not necessarily something you would plan. Flip flops also have a tendency to stick on the dance floor so if dancing is a big part of your reception, you'll want to select shoes that can keep up with your dancing moves!
Last but not least, comfort. I know, I know, it's your wedding day and you want to look beautiful at all costs but believe us when we say - you will not sit down! From the time you walk towards your groom until the rose petals or sparklers wish you farewell, you will be on your feet! So just be prepared and choose beautifully and wisely. You'll have much more fun dancing the night away rather than limping to the ladies room.
Of course those are just a few options to consider among the hundreds out there! Below we have provided some fun bridal photos to give you a little more footwear inspiration - and remember, that applies to brides and grooms! Just be sure to have fun and stay true to yourself as you take your first steps - in whatever shoes you choose - as man and wife!
Kisses for now!
